JAG running programmes are designed for children of all fitness and athletic levels.
JAG’s close partnership with the New York Road Runners Foundation (NYRRF) whose experience in developing and implementing running programmes for youth from all walks of life, spans 9 successful years and has helped JAG to create fun and effective programmes in South Africa.

Programmes range from a beginners programme called Mighty Metres that aims to encourage children to participate in running, to a more advanced coaching programme called the Pronutro JAGRunners

Mighty Metres encourages kids to:

•  Get active!
•  Get moving!
•  Have fun!
•  Release constructive energy!
•  Improve aerobic fitness!
•  Set and strive for personal goals!
•  Bond with their class and school!
•  Develop exercise as a healthy habit!

Mighty Metres is a dynamic running programme aimed at encouraging children to keep active. Since its launch in May 2007, the Mighty Metres programme has attracted nearly 30,000 children in primary schools in the Western and Eastern Cape.

The programme is designed to challenge children of all fitness levels to run and walk one to six accumulated marathons during the school year by covering one kilometer three to five times a week. For each marathon of kilometers they complete, the children earn incentives including medals.

The Pronutro JAGRunners programme was piloted in Kayamandi in April 2008 and was fully launched on 28 June 2008.

Headed by acclaimed coach Dave Spence, a key objective is to train up coaches from the communities so that they can impart their skills to others and thereby increase training capacity in communities.

Still in its early stages, the intensive fitness and training programme aims to motivate and train children ranging from primary through to high school to participate in running events such as Cross Country running, fun runs and track events.
